Maybe this will cool you off this Summer!

I was born and raised in Buffalo, N.Y.

Us Buffalonian’s are very tough people …
probably due to the fact
we get shot down for the snowy weather constantly.

When people ask me where I am from, they usually come back with a snow remark.

Despite a common misconception, Buffalo is known for much more than just it’s weather.

I haven’t lived in Buffalo in more than 20 years, but I will always be proud to call it…

HOME.

Picture

I was recently home for my 25th high school reunion.

My husband, our girls, and I, met my sister, Diane, out for lunch at a restaurant called the “Beach House” on Grand Island, a suburb outside Buffalo where I actually lived (The Beach House-click here for info- use to be a candy/ice cream shop that I would walk to as a child with my siblings).  If you ever visit the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area, I recommend you look them up.

People line up out their door for their Friday fish fry.

We enjoyed Buffalo chicken wings and beef on kimmel weck.   Then took a ride around my old neighborhood.

It was pretty wild telling Daphne & Valerie all of my stories of walking to school in the snow,
and ice skating where there now is a baseball field.
Time flies!!!

We eventually came across a lovely garage sale that happened to be someone that we knew from the past.

She had so many wonderful treasures I think I could have spent all afternoon there.

The skis were the prize though.

I was in ski club back in high school so this was a perfect way to remember those days.  I have often envied the skis I see in Pottery Barn but didn’t want to pay the high price tag.

(keep in mind…Rick told me there was no way they would fit in the car with all of our stuff traveling back to MI…he obviously has no idea who he’s dealing with after 23 yrs.

So all the way home I day dreamed about what I planned to do with them …

Time for some paint I had left over (as usual)
and some easy stencils.  Easy?I have never stenciled before.

Stencil kit is Martha Stewart’s from Michael’s.
I was scared!
I dabbed it on slowly and lightly.
I wanted it to look real…and old!!!
This was easy as pie. I got stencil crazy though.  I started
thinking I should initial things in the house.
I slowly calmed down.
Have I told you that RCD has
an amazing man behind the scenes???
Ready or not…
What does that say???
(pardon the spot light)
In 1977 my family
& I lived through a massive blizzard.
I was 7 years old
and ironically enough…
I remember my Dad keeping a journal while we were stranded
in our home for several days…I sure wish I had that yellow pad journal Dad!!
(my Dad is now 78 and loves to tell us stories about the
blizzard of ’77. )
I love adding the element of
what is that?Or, I understand this person better now.

Make your house personal-it’s not a hotel! :)

Your past makes up who you are…

I much rather see a part of you on a your wall than a picture purchased that matches your towels-it’s less expensive too!

Ps…Don’t be afraid to use your entire wall space going up to the ceiling.

It makes the room/wall look larger.

Nail something fun or that has meaning to you above a picture you already have up!
