I think it is absolutely ridiculous that I haven’t shared this family favorite “Easy Chocolate Pudding Pie Recipe” with you yet.  I have been making this simple delicious pie for over 25 years and my entire family FLIPS OUT when they see it in the fridge.  The thing is…it takes literally 5 minutes to make, and isn’t bad for us.  How COOL is that?  Pun intended.

Out of all the pies I make for my family, this easy chocolate pudding pie recipe is the one they all favor the most! It's made with a pre-made crust so it's finished in minutes with very little clean up!

It’s perfect for picky eaters, too!

I make Cranberry Pecan Pie & Apple Pie for Thanksgiving every year, but this is the pie everyone runs toward.  I slave over those other pies, but this is the STAR.  You just can’t beat it.  It’s cheap, easy to make, not bad for us, extremely yummy…what else do you need?  This chocolate pudding pie is the best pie I make.

I hope you try it.

Easy Chocolate Pudding Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 pre-made store bought graham cracker crust (I use reduced fat Keebler)
  • 2 boxes (3.9 oz.) instand chocolate pudding (sugar free or regular both work)
  • 2 3/4 cups cold skim milk (2% or whole milk work too)
  • 1 (8 oz.) tub cool whip (I prefer light version)
  • big handful of chocolate chips (optional, but better with)

Instructions

Open crust and set aside.

Mix both pudding boxes with cold milk with a whisk or electric mixer until lumps are gone (it shouldn't take long). You will notice it thicken instantly.

Spread pudding in pie crust and spread to edges.

Spread entire tub of cool whip over pudding being careful not to mix them. I like to make "swirls" with spoon so it looks like a fluffy cloud.

Sprinkle chocolate chips all over cool whip and chill pie for 1 hour before serving. I have been known to serve after 30 minutes because it really gets firm quick.

Store leftovers in fridge for 4-5 days.

Oh, Yum. Eat a slice for me.
So very easy to make but yet, it has been ages since I made a chocolate pie. Like idea of chocolate chips. I usually done with chocolate shavings or chocolate curls. Oh, the memories
In place of the chocolate pudding; I have used butterscotch before.

I used to make a pie like this years ago when kids (4) all still home, two of which are boys 16 months apart. Pie didn’t last for 5 minutes. Mr. was lucky to get a piece.Same went for choc.chip cookies, most of time didn’t even get to take off cookie sheet before they were gone when they got home from school.
Your pie looks so good/yummy have got to make it for Mr. Furrykidz.
    Have great weekend

I hear ya Julie! those crumb crusts are great (and so quick). I use the instant chocolate pudding too. Sometimes sprinkle peanut butter cups (chopped) on top.
Isn’t it just ‘the best feeling’ when everybody loves it and they don’t have a clue how quick & easy it was?! Thanks.

I used to make this, but had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder. Don’t have the recipe I used to use, do I assume correctly that you used a 9″ crust? Many thanks!

The pie looks delicious! Any idea on the calorie count per slice?

    • Julie says:

Great question. It’s around 200-250 for 1/8. You can lower it by skipping chips and using sugar free pudding, skim milk, light cool whip, and reduce fat crust. This is one of my go to desserts when watching cals and fat.

YUMMY! Thanks so much for sharing Julie, what a great quick dessert and especially light for the summer.

  7. Sounds so good! I could eat a slice right now!

My hubby loves chocolate pudding pie but I am not a fan of instant pudding. I use the cook on the stove box mix and for extra richness, I use 1/2 c. heavy cream. Yummy

My husband & I watch our saturated fat due to the tendency to get high cholesterol. His Mom passed early due to a hear attack. This recipe is intended to be yummy, yet easy & low fat. No heavy cream required.
