Wall Art I Love

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

I was recently browsing through a local furniture store catalogue and I came across the most beautiful canvas painting I had ever seen.  To be honest, the furniture they styled with the wall art piece didn’t compliment the painting what so ever, and I wondered why in the world would they match up such a beautiful creation with very dated drab furniture.

Well, anyway…luckily I was able to look passed the dated furniture, and my eyes settled on the beautiful art work.  I ripped out the page and I shared it with my family and they all agreed that it was very pretty.  My husband asked me how much it was (Christmas was coming!), but as far as I could tell by the catalogue, it wasn’t for sale.  So, I assumed it was just a prop for the photo.

Weeks passed and we were Christmas shopping at a very large outlet mall here in SE Michigan.  We passed by that local furniture store and of course I thought of the painting, but was too tired to go into the store.  My husband said he wanted to go into Bass Pro Shop (yuck) so, I said, “Ok, I’ll meet you in a few minutes, I need to go check on something.”

Guess what?  It was there.  Or should I say, “She” was there…

I couldn’t believe it.  There it was in one of the “rooms” they had set up with bedroom furniture.  I walked over and checked if it had a tag on the back, and it didn’t.  I quickly mauled found a salesman and he looked it up for me.  I was in luck, and it was even on sale.  The price was right (under $200) and a set of new stem-less wine glasses came with it.  Isn’t that crazy?  I felt like I won the lottery.

So, we got it home which wasn’t easy, and my husband and I hung it over our mantel.  I’m really not sure if it is for everyone, but I love it.  The shades of grey (no pun intended), the romance, the mystery…I love it all.  I would have never imagined I would have a new wedding dress at the age of 47, but I do.  😆

So, my thrifty mirror (see how I painted this mirror gold here) now had to find a new location…

Well, how do you like that?  It fit perfectly over our powder room vanity and looks amazing up against the black.  It completely anchored this room (more on that next week).

Are you searching for the right wall art for your walls and don’t know where to begin?  If so, I would first suggest going to the thrift stores in your area to see what they have to offer.  Think about spray painting the frame, and filling in the middle with free prints, artwork, or your own photos.

Below you’ll find a few of my favorite wall art pieces I have found on-line.  I tried to mix it up and give you a variety.  You’ll find the links to each one below the image.

      Christina,

It was so funny…we tried to fit it in my car. Didn’t work, so my husband dropped us off at Target and went and got his truck. What a guy. It was snowing, too. The kids got a good laugh. Have a wonderful weekend! ~ Julie

Wow! Very lovely! You have so much visual space above you mantel, that the mirror seemed lost. Now it’s perfection! Nice choice.
The mirror fits so much better over the vanity. It worked out beautifully.

    • Julie says:

That is so true, Erika. It was very lost and looked yellow instead of gold. Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!! ~ Julie

    Julie,
I love the teal couch, I don’t know if you remember the big overstuffed teal chair in our living room when you girls were young, same color. Love it, and the gown, well she is beautiful. The height of the picture fills the tall wall space better. Very nice!!

    • Julie says:

OMG! I do remember that chair! I was just showing the girls the dance Jen & I use to do in the living room. Great times and I treasure those special memories. Stay warm & keep on stopping by-I love to hear from you! Tell everyone hello for me!! ~ Jule Bag

I LOVE your dress artwork. Looks fabulous. I have a series of princess dresses that a friend did up for me in pinks and blues but thought too feminine. I will send you them when I am finished them.

By the way, I like the brick on the fireplace. I have been trying to convince my parents in to painting it white or something but now will work around it. Yours looks great. Will send you a picture of this too.

Lovely home you have, Happy New Year, Sheryl

    • Julie Fiato says:

      Hi Sheryl,

So nice to hear from you! Yes…the brick is original to the home and is way too pretty to paint. The original owner found the brick by accident one day and she went through a lot to get it, so it just has such history. It’s a very classic look that will never go out of style. I can’t wait to see your pics! So happy I saved you from a lot of work. ~ Julie

I LOVE IT! so beautiful. yes, you did find the perfect location for that beautiful mirror. it looks as if that space been waiting for the mirror to come and nest in that spot. I love the gold color of the mirror. As for the different pictures, they are fabulous. Thanks for the info about, “what to do when you have pictures, but don’t know where to hang them”? I am often faced with this dilemma, largely due to finding paintings I have bought over the years, but not sure where to hang them, or not having the wall space for them. Thank you for this post, and looking forward to your upcoming post.

    Hi, Julie.
First, I want to say that you have EXTRAORDINARY style and decorating sense and I look forward to each new project you undertake. I would not have thought to put such a feminine painting in a common area but in your home, it works.

Your subsequent comments have emboldened me to paint (well actually, have hubby paint) the frame of a print that has hung on our fireplace for many years. Still love the print (and have a sentimental attachment to it because a late uncle bought it especially for our mantle) but the frame makes it look dated.

BTW, I think I missed the laundry room project updates so I am going to binge read Red Head… instead of TV.

    • Julie Fiato says:

Hey Laurel! I am so excited for you (or hubby, lol) to paint the frame. You will be so surprised how easy it is. The laundry room has taken a back burner until we finish a credenza makeover in the office, and I have a gallery wall & new stair runner to share, too. Plus…I am doing a “coffee lounge” in the kitchen. Oh, and dry rub chicken wings. lol. Lots going on over here, I have been feeling very creative. But don’t worry…the laundry room is coming. I think we are removing the wallpaper in there Sat. Thanks for your comment & let me know how it goes! ~ Julie
