I’ve been planning this magnificent “Crib Mattress Spring Christmas Tree” for a couple years, now.  I first thought of it when I was completing the “Crib Mattress Spring American Flag” that you’ll see below…

Lets take a look and then I’ll fill you in.  She is so pretty I forget what it’s made out of!

Here’s the American Flag I made a couple years ago using a larger crib mattress spring…

The “Crib Mattress Spring Christmas Tree” took just a couple hours to complete and what I love most about it, is that I can move it to so many different locations.  Mine is 4ft. tall, so it would look so cute on a mantel, don’t you think?

I used a little bit of glam (red sparkles) with a little bit of rustic (real pine cones)-typical!

I was going to use a 1/2 of a stump, but it was too big and chunky.  I opted for a big piece of bark from our wood pile.  Easy shmeazy.

Candy canes are one of my favorite “ornaments” and they last for years.

Materials needed to make “Crib Mattress Spring Christmas Tree”:

-1 crib (or cradle) mattress spring (mine is 4ft tall & 27 in. wide)-look at thrift stores to find one if you don’t have one.

Christmas lights (I used 2-100’s)

-white small zip ties

-decorations for tree including a star for the top, beads, ornaments, pine cones, stars, snowflakes, candy canes, ribbon (most of which can be found at the dollar store)

-big piece of bark for the stump

Instructions:

Find a secure location to prop your tree up on a wall so you can work on it.  Attach the lights first in the shape of a tree triangle (I began on top).  Then zig-zag them through the tree like I did.  I used small white zip ties to secure, and cut off the ends.  Notice how I wrapped the lights directly around the frame at the bottom.  Next, attach the decorations (using wire, or zip ties) starting with the beads first, and then the ornaments.  Add the star to the top with wire.  Attach a big piece of bark for the stump with ribbon.

Display where everyyou have an outlet, or use an extension cord.  It would work inside, outside, on the porch, on the mantel, or just on the floor.  It’s perfect for dorm rooms, or small spaces.

Below you will find many more of my Christmas tree ideas…please pin for later!

I am a little clever, but this is way beyond that, love, Dad

Oh how cute that your first response is “Dad” !! After awhile–was I in college?? My Dad would trim his cypress by the front door and MAKE the tree. He attached it to a thin piece of wood –for my brother it was an old broom stick– and he’d staple and wire the branches in place! It was fresh and smelled wonderful. He had a pole lamp in the corner so he anchored it to that and no one ever knew!!!! Dad was like that. He had so much fun doing that and then ALL his kids came from everywhere with their kids and celebrated with Scandinavian foods–tradition!!–and what happy memories!! Your many trees brightened my day. And your Dads comment made me miss my Dad.

    Very clever indeed.
You know what? The other day I was just thinking on what to do with the different sizes of chain link gates that I have laying around.
I just may spray one green and give this a try on one of my unused gates.
Thanks for the inspiration. One nice thing about your crib tree; No tree needles to clean up :} and that’s a good thing.

I did a Florida take on a crib spring Christmas decoration for my front porch with wooden white dolphins and different blue grasses and starfish. Those bed springs are so much fun to decorate! Love your tree and everything you do. You are amazing and inspiring!
