I was in the middle of preparing for the “Detroit Home Magazine” home tour shoot, and something, or someone spoke to me.
They said, “Julie. You need color. Get in your car, go to Home Depot and buy a quart of paint to paint your beloved black console. It’s time, Julie. Don’t be scared, Julie. Do it, Julie.”
I replied, “Okay.”
Introducing my new friend, “Teal Console”…sounds like a movie star.
I had 1 million chores to do to prepare the house for the shoot, but there I was, sifting through paint chips in the middle of the day. My daughter’s were with me and they insisted on this really pretty bright blue. I loved the color, until I brought it home and tried it. It was all wrong. Total fail on my part because I knew it was too bright, but I bought it anyway. My girls are very convincing.
I went back and found a deeper shade of blue. With more green in it. Teal to be exact. Now don’t let these photos fool you. This color is extremely difficult to photograph. I actually asked the photographer why this was and he said Nikon cameras do bring out blues more than others. So, here’s where you can see the difference in hues:
You can even tell on my paint brush in the bottom right corner that the camera definitely distorts the color. In real life the color is more like that teal paint chip. Either way, though. I absolutely LOVE IT. I am so happy I did this, and I wish I could show you in person what it looks like. The teal is perfect for touches of pink that I have added to other parts of the room. It also compliments a painting I have displayed. I’ll be sharing all of these colorful changes in the magazine post this June. I’ll share the magazine right here on my blog, so stay tuned.
In case you forgot what it looked like originally…
Then I first made it over with black (see that makeover HERE). I even lit it up, but opted to skip that this time.
I’m curious…which one do you like better out of the 3? I also switched out my rug. I’ll be sharing that soon.
Paint Information:
PAINT COLOR: Tsunami S450-7 by Behr Marquee in eggshell sheen. ( FYI I bought the Behr paint that was supposed to cover in one coat, but it needed 3 coats!)
The feet are painted with gold metallic craft paint.
Good luck on your next paint project!

Love that pop of color Julie really pretty!
Thank you, Kristin! Now I need more…color is addicting. Happy Mother’s Day, dear friend!
It’s a fun new color Julie!
Thanks, Debbie! You should have seen the first one. Yikes!
Wow!! Gorgeous!! I did this with a small vanity in my front bathroom. But it was odd. I only had to buy a sample. But the color DID look different on than on the brush so I used a bit of watered down brown/black paint to use as a quick wipe on and off in places and then it was better.
I like the pop of color. I don’t know the rest of your decor around it but in the photo? You’ve created an entirely different piece!!!! So original. And I too love black but they led you right?
I will be sharing more soon, Gwen!
I love the color you chose Julie.
Glad you like it, Mary! 🙂
Hi Julie,
Would you share the steps that you take two paint wooden pieces of furniture like the console that you just did? I am dying to try it but I am too scared. Thanks!
I don’t fuss too much, Susan. I basically buy the paint and brush it on. Just make sure to use paint that has primer in it, and use a good angled paint brush like a 2 1/2 inch Purdy. You can get both the paint and brush at Home Depot. I usually paint furniture in eggshell sheen. About 3 coats and let them dry in between. Just go for it!! Let me know how it goes.
i am So over black and white too. Love the teal – excellent choice.
Thank you, Jan!
The teal is pretty but I think the black was just so elegant. I guess it depends on the look you are going for.
Black is elegant, I agree!
Love it. Love your site girl!!
Thank you, Rhonda!
What a change! Love the gold tip feet. I have always thought your wall of silver trays and the black console were stunning. But that pop of color is smashing.
Thank you, Peggy!
I love that color! In fact I just painted my office a very similar color. You did a fantastic job, it looks beautiful!
Thank you, Tammy!! That office sounds beautiful!
Teal is one of my favorite colors, Julie! I AM surprised by the blue the Nikon portrayed it to be! Love the new look, but also loved it black, with the lights!
I painted my bathroom vanity jade green, and now wonder what color the walls should be? I’d like to keep the mirror white, as it is. It’s a very tiny “powder room”.
Whaddy ya think? Thanks!
How about white, Bobbie? 😉
Thanks, Julie! I thought about white, but then I should paint the mirror jade to match the vanity? I LOVE bright, vibrant colors, so left up to my own devices, my home would look like a crayon box, and that won’t do, lol!
I love the black transformation you did, it looks rich and classy like everything else you’ve done. Have a Happy Mother Day!
Teal is so rich and elegant! I love color!!
Thank you, Edith. I think so, too. Especially the deeper hue. Thank you for stopping by!
This is my favorite color! I’m always drawn towards blues and teals 😉 It is definitely hard to capture the actual color but, I can just envision it with the chip sample you included. The console has great shape to it and looks perfect!
