Welcome to this month’s “Thrift Store Decor Challenge” where it’s all about going au natural for Easter.
Before I get started, I wanted to ask if you have signed up for our free newsletter yet? It’s easy to do, just click here:
When I walk into our local grocery store, I am greeted by a mile long aisle of plastic Easter decorations. I’m sure you’ve seen them. The bags of Easter “grass”, plastic eggs, and baskets are everywhere. From dollar stores, to Target…it’s what the retailers think we want.
Well, I decided I don’t want it anymore. What’s in that fake “grass” stuff anyway?
So…this year I’m going more natural with my Easter decorating. I created this “Natural Easter Centerpiece” in less than 15 minutes. Best of all, I didn’t have to buy 1 thing to make it.
First, the bunnies. Introducing my bunny posse. All of them are from the thrift store. This year I added that little guy. Isn’t he cute?

Then comes the basket. This basket is actually a family heirloom that is very dear to my heart. I remember my Mom carrying our Easter eggs to church to have them blessed in this basket. This is one basket that will never be painted or made over in any shape or form. I love it’s vintage worn look.
If you need a basket to make your own “Natural Easter Centerpiece”, the thrift store is where I would start. If you can’t find one there, here’a cute one I found on line: Natural Easter Basket.
Instructions:
To make the basket, I simply placed a little burlap fabric on the bottom of the basket. Then I placed a little natural moss on top of that. The pussy willows are real from my grocery store last year, but you can find those here if you need them.
I guess you can pretty much guess where the carrots, celery, and broccoli came from. My fridge. Now if you want your veggies to stay crisp for a few days, be sure to stick the bottoms in a cup full of water and hide it under the burlap. If you do this the day you need it, you won’t need to do that.
Bunnies love all veggies, so they are perfect for any Easter centerpiece, however, I imagined this a bit more extravagant.
Here’s what I have after I placed everything into the basket…
Here’s how I imagined it…
I know, funny. My daughter was laughing at my broccoli, but I love it. I forgot to buy fresh carrots with their greens still attached, but you can find them in the organic section of the grocery store. The leafy hearts of my celery were missing in action from my last tuna feast, so I had to make due with what I had. I think you get the idea and that was part of the thrill.
You can add anything REAL that you find around the house. Real twigs, real weeds flowers, real grass {imagine that}, real Easter eggs (no color required), real chocolate, real jelly beans, …any thing REAL. Keep it real guys, and forget that plastic stuff.
Before I go eat a deviled egg (recipe coming up Friday), I thought I better remind you to join my team mates and see what they created from their thrift store find this month. Just follow the links below our team photos…

The thrift store really is the best place to find bunnies for Easter, so much more affordable than a regular store. Hope yours don’t eat your carrots out of the basket, they are quick wittle wascals.
That’s just the sweetest thing. You girls are killing me. I haven’t decorated a thing for Easter yet.
Julie,
I love that you use your family basket even still today. I’m such a sentimental sap….
