Thankful Kitchen Tour

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Thankful.

There just isn’t any other word to describe how I feel about our kitchen.  We’ve worked many hours making it our cozy station, but what matters most to me, is not the the decor.  It has nothing to do with the brick backsplash we just installed.  The Granite?  Ha.  The Granite, is just Granite.  Not even our pretty hutch can hold a candle to this.

Thankful!

The moments shared between family and friends that one day we’ll look back and say…

“Remember when?”

That’s what I am talking about here.

Thankful Kitchen by Redhead Can Decorate

Remember when Valerie use to sit on the island with her bowl of ice-cream watching Sponge Bob?

Remember when Daphne would do her “funny dance” right in the middle of the floor and we almost peed our pants we laughed so hard?

Remember Pop making us popcorn and building a fire?

Remember when Mama taught us how to make Grandma’s homemade noodles?

Remember when Sylvia the cat sat hours on that chair just staring at us?

Pretty Thanksgiving Table

I know you get what I’m trying to say.   It’s more than just a pretty space.

The kitchen has gone from dated orange oak…

To rich mahogany wood and deep textures.

It’s gone from plain Jane…

To sparkling Sophia.

But…

Without my family, none of it would matter.

In fact…with out my family, I don’t even think I could or would decorate.  I just wouldn’t have it in me.

So, what that tells me is…I must be feeling some serious LOVE to be able to decorate like this.

Thankful Kitchen & Cranberry Pecan Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Karo light syrup
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups pecans -not chopped (6 oz.)
  • 1 cup fresh, raw rinsed cranberries (they are found in the produce section in a bag usually)
  • whipped topping
  • 1 unbaked pie crust (see my recipe HERE)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. After your pie crust is ready (raw pie crust), mix first 5 ingredients together in a medium bowl. Add whole pecans and mix. Add cranberries and mix. Pour into unbaked pie crust. Help some of the cranberries to the top of the filling so they will be seen after it's baked. Bake 70 minutes (cover edges of crust with metal crust protector, or small tinfoil pieces while its cooking), and let cool for 2 hours. Serve with a dollop or 2 of whipped topping. YUMMY!

Hi Julie~ I just happened to stumble upon your bedroom redo. I only discovered Hometalk.com today. Anyway…I saw in a comment something about granite and radon. I also live in Orion (township). You found radon in your home, and I am not suggesting that thus we must also have radon. Not at all. I’m just SO curious what it has to do with granite? Is it possible to buy countertop material of granite that contains some high (or even detectable) amount of radon???? BTW…your bed totally belongs by the windows and your home is WOW. Thanks in advance. Joyce

    • Julie Fiato says:

Hi Joyce, Great to meet you! We read about radon and decided to have the house tested for it. Come to find out, we have very high levels in our home. Lake Orion is known for high levels, so it is important to have your home tested. You can pay someone, or test it yourself with a kit from Home Depot. We did both. The radon comes from the ground up. It also settles in the basement, but still it is very very toxic and can cause lung cancer. We had a air system installed to rid the house of all radon. It works by removing it from the basement and out the roof. In addition, when we had our granite installed, the installers created a disaster in our home by cutting the granite in the house. That’s a whole other story, but it was during that time that we were testing the house for radon. The man mentioned that granite can contain radon. He tested ours and it was fine. I wouldn’t worry about granite so much, but definitely test your house!! Good luck!

  8. This looks so delicious and you know I love your kitchen!

Please cut me a slice. Your pie looks so yummy, as does everything you post. I must add this pie to my thanksgiving dinner table to. Thanks for sharing. I also was deeply touch reading about the love and joy you have for your family. I feel it would be a pleasure to meet you and your family someday. I am greatiful that I found your site. Dear Ivory, Your comments are the sweetest. Thank you so much for following along. I look forward to your kind words! ~ Julie

  10. Terri says:

This looks luscious. Do I assume correctly that the sweetness of the pecan pie sweetens the cranberries and the cranberries offset the sweetness of the pecan pie? You don’t bite into the cranberries and get a hit of sour do you? Thanks for all you do. So thankful to have people like you to get ideas from for my home! God bless!
