The Heathered Nest Blogger Spotlight

Guys, THIS is a thrill.  Huge Redhead-fan-girl here, so this is pretty fantastic.  Julie is so unique…she dances to her own beat, and I completely dig that.  We kind of bust our own moves where I blog, at The Heathered Nest too.  I can’t really tell you what my “style” or “aesthetic” is…it’s more of an “I know it when I see it” type-deal.   I’ll try to show you what I mean.  So, welcome to Maryland!  Or as they say out here in the country, “Howdy, won’t ya take your boots off and sit a spell?”

heathered-nest-guest-room-1-1024x683Actually, I’m not totally sure that whole “boot” and “sitting a spell” thing is actually what they say.  You see, I’m a city gal transplanted to the country.  And so I kind of make this stuff up as I go along.

This little ol’ blog was started last summer as my (feeble) attempt to stay (slightly) sane.  As it is, I have three little troublemakers angelic children that I now stay home with EVERY day, 24/7.  I love it very much, and am blessed to be in the “raising our future generation” line of business, but blogging has helped me remember that there are, in fact, words that still exist other than those found in the Spot-lift-a-flap books.

We’re big on renovation projects here.  I’m a physical therapist by training, and since I don’t treat humans these days, I’ve taken that love of rehabilitation and put it to use in our homes.  Here’s what that guest room above looked like BEFORE:Heathered Nest Guest Room BEFOREAnother space in our pad that got a massive overhaul was our dining room.  Come have a looksy!  Care for some artisanal cheeses and port?  Perhaps some caviar and crudite´?  Well, you’re in the wrong place.  But we’re happy to share some of our pop tarts and apple juice (organic, of course).
IMG_0934Mid-way through this project is when husband and I decided that we should probably start therapy if we wanted to eventually dine TOGETHER in this dining room.  This room was a BEAST of a project.  What started as “let’s just add some moulding and call it a day” turned into a termite-infested, massive structural overhaul and re-construction project.  NO BUEÑO.Termite damage Heathered Nest Dining RoomEventually, we conquered the dining room.  And we’re still married.  #MiraclesHappen.

Need to use the loo?  We love bathroom renovations here. heathered nest craigslist pedestal sink, wainscoting and grassclothIf you would have come last year, this is what you would have seen in here…look quickly, then avert your eyes…it’s a lot of purple-people-eating goodness.Heathered Nest Powder Room BeforeHere’s another we recently completed.  We call it Napoleon’s Throne Room…hee hee.

This is where we started.

Totally awesome, no?  Correct…NO.  That bath was the OPPOSITE of awesome.
Kids rooms our our other jam.  And I know the kids will want to show you their spaces before you go…
My daughter may con you into playing tea party…
My older son will ask you to read 37 books to him about trains…
And the youngest will have you making smores over a roaring felt campfire.  But don’t start getting too comfortable around here, or we’ll put you to work!  We paint lots of furniture…

And trust me when I tell you there are plenty more “before” spaces that are waiting for their “afters”.
So glad to have met you, and hope our paths cross again out here on the www very soon!
Cheers!

Congratulations to your friend and her cancer free anniversary. The Race for the Cure is my college sorority’s national philanthropy. It’s not the Susan B. Komen one now.
My question is where did you find that gorgeous ruffled bed spread. I totally love it!
