I caught my husband drinking the milk out of the plastic white milk jug from Kroger in the middle of the night last month. Yes…it was like out of a sitcom. He had his pjs on, the refrigerator light shining on his milk mustache, and then the look of a deer caught in headlights as he realized I caught him. I admit…I was shocked, and annoyed. Hind sight is always 20/20 though. This guy works his butt off all week. If he wants to drink the damn milk out of the plastic milk jug at 3am…I say drink up baby. Don’t forget the oreos.
Why the “milk underwear guzzler” story? Because I made DIY Milk Glass of course.
$2.58 + 1 can white glossy spray paint = DIY Milk Glass
If I knew this was so easy, I would have tried it 30 years ago. Wait, I was only 16 then, so probably more like 20 years ago.
My daughters and I found this cute lemon pitcher at Goodwill. I know it is rather cute, and would be darling with icy lemonade pouring out of it. Unfortunately, it didn’t stand a chance with me staring at it’s beautiful shape. Just look at those curves.
Then, the plate was just an added bonus. It was just a random pear plate, but I knew if it found a home under the pitcher it would really look like a match.
For those of you that would like to try this, I have a few tips:
- Clean your DIY Milk Glass victim and even sand it if you have to so its silky smooth. Feel it to make sure there are no paint lines in it, or stickers.
- Use spray paint that has primer in it.
- Spray lightly and from a distance so you don’t develop drips. This took me 5 light coats.
- If you develop a drip, let it dry, sand it out, and try again.
- Make sure it’s dry in between coats.
This DIY Milk Glass turned out so pretty, I decided to give it as a gift to a special neighbor who received some bad news recently. I placed a hydrangea in it from our yard and left it on her step.

This is such a great idea! It looks like the real thing! High five, friend!
I’ve got a milk guzzler but she is usually wearing paint splattered jammies.
This is super cute, so nice of you to give it to your neighbor!

Sorry about the neighbor’s bad news but you are a thoughtful, kind neighbor. You can move to my Circle! You wanted to know if we’re south of you so I will sign off–

I love the DIY milk glass!…My brother used to do that and it would gross us sisters out!!…So my mom put a special milk decanter in the fridge so my brother could take a swig any time his heart desired…
Shirley, that is hilarious!!!!
I never saw this, what a great Idea, you did it again, love, Dad in NY.
It was done a while ago, Dad!
Pitcher is cool but the best part was a rak, radom act of kindness!! Tells me a lot about you and what a wonderful example you taught those kids. I’m not new to your site but just wanted to let you know that your kindness was appreciated by many readers. Hugs Red!,,,???
