Over 100 Paint Makeovers in Blog Land!

Paint has played a major role in our family’s lives, and I’m not just referring to makeover projects.

You see…my husband put himself through law school by painting the interior and exterior of houses.  For years he came home to me in his paint splattered white overalls.  Eventually, he decided to follow his dream and pursue his law degree by going to school at night.  Painting all day, then studying all night, is not something most would choose to do, but he used his painting company as a stepping stone to get where he really wanted to be.

Ironically enough, I painted my way in to developing redheadcandecorate.com.  Painting our kitchen cabinets launched my blogging career and has helped me reach many goals I would have never achieved otherwise.

So…to me, paint is pretty amazing 🙂

To celebrate that fact, I have a very special post for you today involving a lot of paint.  Not only do I have a fun makeover for you, but the “All Things Creative Team” has pulled together the “Best Paint Makeovers in Blog Land”.  To top it all off, we have a paint giveaway for you to enter at the end so you can get your overalls on and make over something of your very own.

First up is my “Gift Set Box Makeover”…

*This is a sponsored review post, which means I was provided with 1 or more products for free and compensated to review them.  All opinions are mine and honest.

What stood out to me was the pretty hardware.  The angels sang to me, and I loved the ornate metal handle.  I knew this could be gorgeous with a little paint and creativity.

Lucky for me, I had just been asked to review Reclaim Paint.  I had never heard of Reclaim paint before, but I am always willing to try new paint.  What I learned is that Reclaim Paint is mostly known for being used on cabinets and furniture.  I knew if it could hold up on those things, it surely would work well on my little box.

When it came time to choose a color, I decided on Versailles because I thought it helped the hardware stand out and I had the perfect little paper flowers that matched.

Before applying the paint, I sanded the entire box as best as I could with out taking off some of the vintage texture.  I ended up painting the entire box with a very small paint brush, and therefore I didn’t need to remove the hardware.

I must admit that I thought the color would turn out a tad darker than it did.  However, I was very pleased with the paint coverage.  It’s very high quality paint that goes on very smooth.  It also cleans up very easily.

After 3 coats, I sanded it again to give it that vintage appeal.  I also added the paper flowers with a little glue.

I couldn’t resist taking this pretty box to the next level by adding candles.  The tea light candles are resting in blue road salt and the photo is of my Mom & Dad in 1956.  They are both 80 years old today.

  3. I love your gift box, Julie! I saw the photo of your parents on FB and I wondered what you were going to do with it! I, too, thought Versailles would be a little darker, too but I loved the softness of the color once I finished.
