Amish Strawberry Shortcake

Being food bloggers, Maddie and I are constantly trying new recipes. Whether it is a completely new recipe or a unique twist on an original, we rarely have the same dessert more than once. My son begs for just “normal pumpkin pie, please!!!”. 🙂

Amish Strawberry Shortcake

This Amish Strawberry Shortcake is one recipe that we always come back to. That never fails. That I crave.

Are strawberries on sale at stores near you? Here in Ohio it’s definitely not strawberry season. I mean, we had snow just last week. It is the time of year, however, that you can get great deals on strawberries at Meijer or Walmart. I buy them up and freeze them if we don’t eat them all fresh. It never fails when I see a display of strawberries that I don’t think of this Amish Strawberry Shortcake.

It comes from an old Amish cookbook that I got at my wedding shower. This shortcake is soft and “biscuity”, but what makes it special is the sugar streusel that bakes into the top of this cake. Oh my goodness. It gives an extra sweetness to the cake…just the perfect touch so that it makes you want to devour the whole cake by itself.

And then when you add strawberries and whipped cream? I’m warning you…you’ll never go back to store-bought shortcakes!
