Placemat Turned Heart Pillow

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Love is in the air.

I don’t hide the fact that I’m madly in love with my husband.  If I could, I would scream it from the top of a mountain every morning, announce it on the radio every afternoon, and broadcast it on the national news every night at 6:30pm.  After 26 years, it’s pretty nice to still feel that way.  We have been blessed with this wonderful partnership, and I never take it for granted.

I may have gotten a little carried away this year with all of the “love” decor for Valentine’s Day, but I think it’s just my way of showing how much I love, how much I feel loved, and how much love fills our home.

This will be the last “Valentine’s Day” idea until the grand finale next Friday when I pull it all together into our bedroom.

>>>>What did she say?

Yes, I said bedroom.  You’ll have to tune in next Friday to see what I am referring too {sneaky Julie}.

So, what do you think of this “Placemat Turned Heart Pillow”?

(I’ll get to that “Pottery Barn Knock-Off LOVE Sign” is a second)

I came across the placemat at JoAnn Fabric’s.  I also noticed them at our grocery store here in Michigan (Meijer).  They seemed to be everywhere this year.

When I picked one up, I noticed it had 2 layers.  That’s when the pillow idea struck.  I am not a seamstress, but I wondered if I could stuff it into a pillow.  I had a coupon, so I grabbed one and hoped for the best. (I had stuffing at home)

I carefully cut into the stitching with a very sharp knife.

I was very skeptical because the fabric on the back was so thin.

I didn’t think it would hold up to my stitches.

I ignored my skepticism, and kept going.

I got my needle and thread and sewed this baby shut by hand.

That thin fabric must be made of steel.

It worked perfectly.

It fits in quite nicely with all of the other projects I’ve completed around here lately.

Are you still wondering about the “Pottery Barn Knock-Off LOVE Sign”?

I have to be totally honest.

This was not as easy, but thank goodness I have my amazing daughter to help me.

She did the letters by free hand.  Isn’t that incredible?

No ruler, no stencil, just her and her pencil.

I went over it with marker, and colored them in.

(these are high quality artist markers by the way)

For the frame, I used an old one that had a poster in it.

I attached white paper to the cardboard that was already in the frame, for the back ground, with tape.

There’s actually a seam through the middle, but you can’t see it.

Then, I attached the letters with more tape putting it on the backs of the letters.

I eyeballed it straight.

Next, I applied Mod Podge over the entire poster with a paint brush.  That was a mistake because it made it wrinkle a bit.  I should have just framed it the way it was.

We know the letters aren’t exactly like Pottery Barn’s, but we don’t care.

I’ll never forget the fun we had making this together.  Pure LOVE.

See you later! XO

I love the fact that it’s not a “perfect” heart. It looks so sweet on that chair and just below your love poster.

what a great job on the LOVE wall art. I’ve been eyeing it on the Pottery Barn website and it’s even in my cart as I type this. After reading your “how to” I may just have to make it myself instead of paying a price of $149-$299. I could customize it that way also. May I ask what size frame you used?

Thanks for all of your input,
    Shannon

Your LOVE picture look’s perfect. You always knock me off my feet. It’s so sweet doing any project with your child, but especially with your daughter. Nothing like a mom and her daughter

    Hi Julie
Sooo! clever. All your creations are great. I bought a heart shaped pillow form awhile back and just might cover it red. Your daughter is quite an artist, her freehand letters are wonderful. I’m sure you had a fun time. Talking about loving our husbands, you’re 26 yrs and we are 60 plus yrs. Never stop!! I am slowly recovering and am determined to get back golfing this year. Stay safe friend. Hugs, Bette

Awww! Thank you, my friend!! I am so happy to hear you are on the mend!! The golf course will be calling your name so you better rest up!!
