Wood Floor Refinishing With No Sanding or Toxic Chemicals

I think I am still in shock.  My family is too.

Our 20 year old floors are simply gorgeous now.

I must share our “No Sanding Non Toxic Wood Floor Refinishing” discovery with you.

I would have done this during our DIY Kitchen Makeover (found here) if I had known.

Here’s how it all began.

While skimming through some coupon advertisements I came across a coupon for:

“Mr. Sandless Floor Refinishing”.

I was extremely skeptical at first until I studied the photos.

I shared the info. with my husband and we called for a free estimate.

A lovely couple came out on a Saturday and explained the full process and gave us a quote.

In a nut shell, they explained:

1. No sanding required.

2. No toxic chemicals, or harsh odors.

3. More affordable because there is less labor/time.

4. Done in one day.

5. Can go shades darker if preferred.

6. 5 year warranty

7. I think I made my point.

We couldn’t say, “No.”

Our floors were in desperate need of help.

The price was right, and the time was right.

This is what we started with:

Sandless Refinishing

This is what we ended up with:

Sandless Wood Floor Refinishing

Here’s more before & after I put together for you.

This is what you can expect if you decide to have your floors done.

The day before you will need to remove all of your furniture from the floor.

This was the hardest part for us, but well worth it.

I recommend hiring a professional mover to move everything out and back after the floor is finished.

Unfortunately, I suffered a back injury when we moved our furniture.

It may seem easy, but trust me on this one.

If you are doing your kitchen, plan ahead for your meals for the day.

We hung out in our bedrooms and even left for a while so the 2 gentleman could work.

floor mess

The guys were very punctual and arrived bright and early with their special “slippers” in hand.

First, they prepare the floor by cleaning it with special high speed floor machines with abrasive pads.

There was absolutely no mess what so ever.

Next, they sealed it with their special sealants and top coats.

When they applied our top coats, we worked with them “in discussion” to achieve the color we desired at no extra expense.

When I asked them to go darker, they did.

They knew Red knew what she wanted.

If you prefer them with no color, that’s fine too.

The coats dry amazingly fast.

The entire process lasted approx. 7 hours.

By 5pm we were walking on our floor.

We had a blast that night just admiring it and sliding around on it.

We were laughing at our kitty, Sylvia, because she acted like it was ice at first.

Furniture went back the next day.

OH MY GOSH!! Julie this is totally the answer I’ve been looking for! My kitchen floors look just like yours (in the before photo!) and are around the same age and are in desperate need of a face-lift. I’m so excited about this and can’t thank you enough for sharing it with us!!

    Your floors look amazing!!

  4. Dina P. says:

It looks amazing. I want your kitchen! ha ha You don’t say what was used for topcoats
and sealants, do you know what was used? Thanks.

  5. It looks AMAZING!! Such an awesome product!!
Sharing on FB and Pinning…even though I don’t EVEN have wood floors…other people who do need to read this!!
    xoxo

  6. Jan says:

I am thinking of installing hardwood floors but with two large dogs am hesitant. What type of wood do you have? Seeing you have a large dog? LOVE the finish.

    • Julie says:

Unfortunately we don’t have “Dude” any longer. We decided to try this after he passed. He scratched our floors up pretty badly (poor guy). Sanding is the only thing that would help that. Although the scratches do look better with this process. We have oak wood floors.

  7. Jean says:

You could buy the finish and do it yourself for about $200.00.

  8. Emily Lahm says:

I can’t find the link to the company or how much $$ you spent to redo your floors.

  9. I really need to do our floors now – yours look gorgeous!!!

  10. Jean Marie says:

    Lose the Red thing …

  11. Julie Chaiken says:

can you please give me the name of the comapany that you used

  12. TMB.GA says:

Caution, we had a company do our floors with the same procedure (water base finish), the problem, it is not a hard finish, our Jack Russel who weighs only (10lbs) left scratches, they came back and did a repair job. After a year we had it re sanded and a new finish (poly) put on and now 3 years later it still looks new!!!!!I will not use this for high traffic areas!!!

  13. Looks great Red! Fabu… just like you!! 😉

  14. Claudia says:

Hi, I love the floors and all but I am totally distracted by your dining table seating! Is that a sofa or upholstered seats? I LOVE the way it looks! I’ve been all over your page, but haven’t seen your table set up with those particular seats…is there another post with them? LOVE your page!!!

  15. We used Mr. Sandless here in Atlanta a few years ago, and I liked the instant results, but my floors have not stayed looking as good as they did right after. It was cost effective, considering the alternatives, and they were very nice to work with! I had messed up my floors with years of Quick Shine, I think it’s called. We have 2 large dogs, and 3 boys, so it may be that we would have to do it again? Your floors look beautiful though!! If you have coated your floors with a product like I had, it was great that they got it all off !

  16. Sherry says:

I didn’t think your kitchen could get any better! Love the beautiful new shiny floors and cannot believe the price. They turned out wonderful!

  17. Jan says:

Just found you thru Fox Hollow – and so happy I did as I’ve been considering painting my kitchen cabinets the same color as yours….inspiring! Thanks so much, I’ll be back for more!

  18. Wow, that is amazing! My oak floors are only 7 years old, but the two dogs absolutely destroyed them! This might be the perfect solution. 🙂

  19. Sharon B. says:

Wow Julie, that looks amazing! Your entire kitchen is just gorgeous and with those floors, it’s gorgeous-er. You must be thrilled!

  20. Debbie says:

It looks awesome! What a transformation 🙂 I love that chandelier too!
    Debbie

  21. Sharon says:

Your floors are gorgeous…love that shine!

  22. Love, love, love how this turned out. As if your kitchen could get any better. It did!! And, grrrrrl we’ll never lose “the Red thing”. Pinky swear. Pinning! xo

  23. Looks awesome, girl!! Just gorgeous.

  24. Linda says:

Love how the floors look! You have a beautiful home!

  25. Julia says:

You never cease to amaze me Jules. Absolutely beautiful just like my RED!! ♡♡♡♡♡ Smooooches

  26. This post couldn’t have come at a better time – I’m doing research on getting my floors redone and you just saved me a lot of research! ‘m planning on having it done before I move back into my place so I won’t have to worry about moving furniture. Quick question: in the top before/after photo, what is the wall paint color of the room next to the kitchen? I am looking for a soft tan/beige color and that one looks so pretty. Your home is so beautiful and the new floors are the icing on the cake!

  27. Megan says:

Can you tell me about the light fixture over the table? It’s absolutely gorgeous!

  28. Linda Southworth says:

Loved how these turned out. We are hitting the one year mark on the floors. Can you do a quick update on how they have worn. Any regrets?

  29. Bonnie Lecat says:

Wow! Beautiful:) I really need to do this at my house, so thanks for sharing.

  30. It looks GREAT! How it was actually done so I can do this to my floors….? I am guessing I should Google “sandless floor” to see if there are companies in my area that do it. Is this a DIY project that we could do ourselves if we found the right sealants and stuff? My kids have scuffed the wood floors after silly me allowed them to ride their scooters indoors. LOL. They were never as shiny as yours are now. But I’m interested in having it done. Thanks!

    Serena @ Thrift Diving

    • Julie says:

No, Serena, you need the special machine they use. I consider it DIY because we had to move the furniture which was most of the work. If you follow the link to Mr. Sandless in my post, they can assist you.

  31. patty g says:

Did you move your kitchen appliances out or were you able to leave them?

  32. LIBBY says:

    Hello,
By chance, how are you cleaning the floors?
I also have varnish/ polyetc… on the hardwood floors but we’re afraid to use any chemicals.
    could you please email me.
    thank you.

  33. Amy says:

Can I ask? Because I’m dying to know… What “red” thing is that person talking about?? U seem to have known right away what she was talking about (love the snappy comeback!). Don’t tell me that’s about ur name/hair color?! All these gorgeous pics of ur beautiful home, and that’s the comment she makes?! Wow. Reminds me of a girl that finally just backed off from bullying my 12 year old daughter. Did I mention she’s 12?! And in middle school?! (I am also a very proud red head… She wishes. Bully.) I can tell u don’t let it bother u, but our situation with the bully is fresh so, it bothers me. And, well, I can never just keep my comments to myself I guess…
Ur floors look great! We actually just pulled up our carpet So we could put down a laminate floor, when we (well I, apparently, he knew) was very happily surprised to find hard wood underneath! Not sure where to begin with it, but maybe I’ll check ur guys out… So, thanks for ur post! 🙂 have a great day Red! 😉

  34. heather says:

    That made an amazing difference!!!

  35. Linda says:

Your floors look wonderful! Love your kitchen and dining area too. An aside, I am now on the hunt for a FAMILY sign or something similar for one of our transcepts because I love hte way it looks!

  36. Chandler says:

How are they holding up still. Any wearing of the coating or.dulling? We are thinking getting it done next month

    • Julie Fiato says:

Hi Chandler, The floors are holding up great, however the shine does fade out after wear and tear. They still look way better than before. ~ Julie

  37. Rosemarie says:

I just called Mr. Sandless for an estimate. They are not located in Ottawa, but they will drive here from Montreal.
