Summer Front Porch Makeover

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail

Welcome to my Summer front porch makeover!

Porches are very special places.

They deserve a little attention I think.

We greet our family & friends there.

We relax there and watch our children play.

We gather there with a cocktail and talk about our day.

Heck, we even receive flowers & pizzas there.

Come on guys…lets get her lookin’ fine again.

While on vacation in Niagara on the Lake I began to fantasize of ways to help our porch pop.

I wanted it to lean towards a “beachy” theme.

I began to think about what I had that would give it that feel.

I asked my hubby to help me move the Adirondack chairs out to the front.

The pop of color really put me in the mood to keep going.

I got our lantern out and used a chain to hang it just at the right level since I don’t have a table.

If you have a lot of indirect light Fern’s are pretty cheap.  I paid $9.99 for this one.

Then I grew tired of the hose wreath.  I love it, but I was ready for a change.

I decided to make a sign out of left over wood.

This is what I started with:

Then I beat it with a hammer, stained it, polyurethaned it and drilled holes for the twine.

Originally, I was going to stencil and paint an ice cream sign.

That became stressful because I was afraid I would mess it up.

I decided to try chalk.

It works just like a chalk board.  No chalk board paint required folks!

Who knew?

I can wipe it and put whatever I want depending on the occasion.

This will be nice for birthday’s.

(ps the butterfly is a magnet that cost $1)

So now I felt as though I needed more color.

I’ve always loved pink flamingos.

I looked on E-Bay and found this metal one for $19, score!

She is darn cute.

Val wants her in her room.  I said sure, after Summer 🙂

I then decided to spray paint this iron plant holder we found at an antique shop on vacation.

It was originally black.

I love it now.

Since the inspiration came from our vacation at Niagara on the Lake I decided to add a rock we found on Lake Ontario.

I painted it and added some shells Valerie found there with glue.

I also polyurethaned this so rain won’t hurt it.

The last step was replacing our carriage lights.

I found inexpensive replacements at Home Depot, and my Dad and I installed them.

The rug is from Target.

While out there taking photos of our porch I couldn’t resist a few shots of the flowers in bloom.

We have had a ton of rain so things are really healthy this year.

Enjoy!

Sometimes a flower not quite in bloom is just as pretty…

Julie I love the pictures of your house!! I was wondering what color your wood shingles on your front porch. When we moved here our house was a very light blue (almost sky blue) and then we painted it grey. I have been looking for a country blue color and I love the color on your house. I love your site. Take care and have a great weekend.

Hi Jill! I just went down in the basement to check for you. There is no name on the darn can, and the numbers are faded. If you want I can send you a swatch I can paint. E-mail me your address @ letsgoracing39@comcast.net. It’s an awesome color and worked because of the blue in the brick. I was terrified it would clash, but it didn’t. It’s Behr Ultra from Home Depot and it looks periwinkle in person. XO
