Orange Crate Turned Easter Basket

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail
Easter is super early this year.
So early, that I bet some of us are scrambling to get it all done.
Here’s a cute trick I came up with for those of us that need an Easter basket.
A couple weeks ago I came home with some of those little oranges in the wood crate.
They sell them here in the Midwest this time of year.
We love them and gobble them up fast.
I was about to throw the crate in the fire,
and something stopped me.
I looked at it and thought for a bit.
hmmmm….

So then, there it sat, next to my computer for weeks,
until yesterday when I finally had time to get started on my idea.

When I was little, my parents always managed to make us 4 kids the most beautiful Easter baskets.

The Easter bunny would hide our Easter baskets at home,

along with some eggs, and on Easter morning we had to find them.

What joy this brought me as a child.
We continue the tradition here at our house.

So here’s how I did it.
After I painted it all white,
I wrapped the green ribbon around the corners that were protruding.
Then I did the same with the pink and tied a bow in front.
I used a staple gun to secure the ribbon in the back.

I needed a handle, so I looked around the house and found an old belt (I hate wearing belts)
and secured it with a staple gun on each side.
I covered the staples by wrapping twine around the box several times tying it in the back.

I then had an issue with getting the belt to stand up,
so I sprayed it with some starch I didn’t even know I had -lol.
Then I hung it to dry last night.
I knew this chandelier was meant for more that just looks.

The green grass, baby chicks, glitter eggs on a stick
are all from the Dollar Tree.
The furry Easter bunny I also found at the dollar store, but it was last year.
The ceramic eggs my brother and cousins made years ago,
and I inherited them after my brother passed away.

It’s amazing what you can do with day to day items that you would normally throw out.

Happy Easter!

Have a wonderful weekend with your family.
Love,
Julie

That’s cute. The first thing, I thought o,f when I saw the crate, was a foot stool(foot rest). I would have painted it,added a foam stuffing, and covered that. Just thinking out loud.
