Dining Room—Turned Office (Completed Version)

Facebooktwitterpinterestmail
Finally!
I have something to share that isn’t 1/2 way finished.
This ended up being a lot of work, but well worth it.  Now my office is located directly off the kitchen instead of upstairs.  Sorry thighs, but your going to have to relax a little.  Now that everything isn’t scattered through out the kitchen table, the island, and in my old office up there, I feel so much more “in control” with everything I “control” in one space.
Besides. . . I can really make this redheadcandecorate.com’s home station.  I have one more finishing touch on it’s way, but that will have to wait.  I had to post these pics today because I was so excited to share 🙂
Let me know what you think.

DINING ROOM BEFORE…VERY COLD AND LONELY…EXCEPT FOR DUDE!

Girls can use screw guns too!
I finally decided I had enough looking at dusty glasses we never used.  We unscrewed this thing and will use the bottom for my office storage.  Bye bye dust!

My girls helped putting this capiz shell chandelier together.  We had to hook each little shell to 2 little links, and make the length it called for in the pattern they give you.  It was easy, but time consuming.  Even a neighborhood friend helped too (thanks Hannah!).  Great job you guys.
It probably took close to 5-6 hours total for that light. (no, the girls did not do all of that labor)
I looked on-line and found some that were put together cost $1600.00. This one was $101.00.

Is it really that horrible Val?

I adore this light…it even chimes at times ever so slightly.
I have to say it. . . drum roll please. . .are you ready?
It’s not a huge transformation, but it sure makes a difference in my life.  See you later dining room.  (This table was actually in our kitchen-I swapped them out because this one looked more like a desk to me).

Now I can look at all these lovely family photos while I think of new ideas for this site!  I don’t have a lot of table space for picture frames, so this is a great alternative.  I took off the backs of the frames that didn’t have a hanger and used “Command Picture Hanging Strips”.  I added special trinkets such as my Brother’s favorite spoon, my tap shoe metals, and even a pretty pink plate I found for $6 to add color.  My favorite is the Christmas ornament up on top that my husband and children gave me.  🙂

(Here is an updated photo)
FYI-to make your gallery wall, start in the middle and work your way out.  No need to measure.
The “Command Picture Hanging Strips” are easy to work with.
Nothing has fallen off this wall since I did this over a year ago.

AFTER~spray painted Nano’s Mirror, & new storage area for my office supplies in that bottom part!
Details. . .

Hey! Where’s my bed?

Nothing like a real Hydrangea plant to add color.  I spray painted the mirror that use to be in my bathroom with silver, and I found the lamp at a consignment shop along with the knobs.  I spray painted the drawer handles with copper and distressed the edges of the buffet months ago to give it some history.  Here you will notice these pics were taken a few days later after I added in the RCD sign.  I knew I needed something above that mirror, so my husband and I came up with this.  You can see how we made the sign out of an unused armoire door from our kitchen here…it was so easy and inexpensive.

If you look real close at the top photo you can see Rick’s brother up on top who is presently serving our country stationed in Japan.  Also, Rick’s Mom as a beautiful young girl, and my brother, who lost his life to AIDS in 1995 (he liked home decor as well, I know he’d be on here every day if he were here). Very special photos-all of them.

Now it’s time for FAMILY time. . . 🙂

Happy Easter!

Saw this on your webpage and pretty much bought it immediately, thanks for the link! It is smaller than I thought and I assembled it closer to the way you did rather that the instructions, but overall, I love it! My husband and his brother assembled it for me (5 hours…working together!) but since it was my Christmas gift and we saved a ton of money AND we were all just sitting around due to vacation, it was totally worth it! Thanks for sharing your fabulous find!
